Benefits of Om mani padme hum, the well-known Buddhist mantra and other mantras

Buddhism is a good religion for people. Compassion for others and wishing them well is considered part of Buddhist practice, as well as liberation from suffering. This is the mantra of Chenrezig also known as Guan Yin and Avalokiteshvara. One translation is "Hail to the jewel in the lotus." [Image: u2kXsZT.jpg] "Fifteen Major Benefits There are fifteen major benefits, which are the same for both the long and the short mantra. Actually, there are so many benefits but if one can remember these fifteen, these are the most important, the integrated outlines. In all lifetimes, one will meet with virtuous kings - religious kings like His Holiness the Dalai Lama and other virtuous leaders - and by being in such a place where there is a virtuous king one will have much opportunity to practise Dharma. One will always be reborn in virtuous places where there is a lot of Dharma practice, where there are lots of temples, where one can make lots of offerings, where there a lot of holy objects, statues, stupas and so forth. Being in a place where there are all these holy objects gives one the opportunity to practise Dharma, to create the cause of happiness, to accumulate merit. And being in a place where there are many in the city doing practice inspires oneself to practise Dharma, the cause of happiness. One will always meet with fortunate times and good conditions, which will help your Dharma practice. Having many good things happen it inspires you to practise Dharma, to receive teachings and to meditate. One will always be able to meet with virtuous friends. One will always receive a perfect human body. One’s mind will become familiar with the path, with virtue. One will not allow one’s vows, one’s morality to degenerate. People around you - family, Dharma students, people in the office, and so one - will be kind and harmonious with you. You will always have wealth, the means of living. You will always be protected and served by others. Your wealth will not be stolen or taken away by others. Whatever you wish will succeed. You will always be protected by virtuous nagas and devas. In all lifetimes, you will see Buddha and be able to hear the Dharma. By listening to the pure Dharma, you will be able to actualise the profound meaning, emptiness." Scarlett Johansson Calls Fiancé Colin Jost the 'Love of My Life' in SNL Monologue

media thumbnailScarlett Johansson wasted no time raving over fiancé Colin Jost when she made her sixth appearance as host on Saturday Night Live. The Marriage Story actress, 35, kicked off her opening monologue during this weekend’s show with some playful jokes about Jost, 37, whom she got engaged to in May after two years of dating. “It’s so great to be back hosting SNL for the sixth time, ” Johansson began. “The sixth time is even more exciting than the fifth because you’re not worried anymore. The show is bad, what are they gonna do, fire my fiancé? Oh no, what will we do without his paycheck?” Johansson’s monologue then became filled with hilarious Avengers references when many of the SNL cast, including Bowen Yang and Beck Bennett, began to suddenly turn to dust, which the actress quickly deduced to be Thanos’ doing. While Johansson was thrilled to see that Michael Che was among the survivors, she did not have the same reaction to Jost, who joined his fiancée on stage. RELATED: Scarlett Johansson and SNL‘s Colin Jost Are Engaged After Two Years of Dating “I thought you’d be more relieved to see me, ” the comedian said. “I am. It’s great, ” Johansson responded nonchalantly. “Doesn’t feel great, ” Jost insisted. Johansson explained to her fiancé that she was “just a little focused on Thanos right now” before Nick Fury, played by Kenan Thompson, arrived to offer Johansson his assistance. However, the actress could not remember Fury’s name, to which Jost joked, “Do you not watch the movies?” After Jost left the pair to handle things themselves, they discovered that Pete Davidson was the person in possession of Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet. After some convincing by Johansson, Davidson, 26, snapped the cast members back into reality. Johansson then joined the entire cast, including Jost, on stage and raver over her fiancé before embracing and kissing him. “It’s great to have you all back, ” she said. “I just want to say that this place means so much to me. I have so many friends here and I met the love of my life here. Merry Christmas.” Johannson and Jost got engaged in May after two years of dating. The Avengers: Endgame star debuted her 11-carat engagement ring in July while taking the stage at San Diego Comic-Con for her upcoming Black Widow prequel film. In October, the actress told Ellen DeGeneres that Jost “killed it” when proposing with “a whole James Bond situation.” “It was surprising, he’s got a lot behind that news desk he’s hiding, ” Johansson said, referring to Jost’s job as Weekend Update host. “He’s very charming and very thoughtful and romantic. But yeah, I was surprised. Even if you kind of imagine what that moment’s gonna be like, it’s still a beautiful moment.” RELATED: Scarlett Johansson Says She Was ‘Surprised’ by Colin Jost’s Proposal: ‘He Killed It’ “It was very personal. It was a special moment, ” Johansson added of the proposal. “I think, more than anything, when someone tells you they want to spend their life with you, that’s a lovely, special thing.” In May of this year, a source told PEOPLE that the pair had bonded over a similar sense of humor — particularly their shared love of sarcasm. “Scarlett likes Colin’s sarcasm and wit, ” the source said of Johansson and Jost. “They share a love for acerbic humor and outrage at social issues gone bad. They have much in common.”

Millionaire property developer shot dead by armed robbers outside 5 star hotel in Argentina, as police probe whether tourists were followed from airportA British millionaire property magnate has been shot dead outside a five star hotel in Argentina after being held up by armed robbers. Matthew Charles Gibbard, 50, was named locally as the victim of a brutal attack that took place in broad daylight outside the Faena hotel in Buenos Aires. According to reports, his stepson, Stefan Zone, 28, was also shot in the thigh and is recovering in hospital. Alberto Fernandez, Argentina’s President branded the incident “atrocious” adding: “We must be severe, we cannot tolerate this. We must seek out those responsible and make them pay with the rigour of Justice." Mr Gibbard is a director at Tingdene, a retirement homes firm, which turned over £20 million last year, according to Companies House. Matthew Gibbard, centre, ran to confront the robbers who were attacking his stepson Credit: TN He is also listed as a director for a local vineyard, and a vegetation management company. It is understood that they arrived in Buenos Aires’ Ezeiza International Airport on a British Airways flight that landed at 9:20am, and took a taxi to their hotel, along with other family members. As they were getting out, they were intercepted by two men on a motorcycle who tried to rob them as left the taxi, just before 11:00 am. The robbers, who had been circling the area, also had a support vehicle nearby, it has been claimed. The two Brits attempted to resist the theft and were shot in the struggle, authorities said. Emergency services arrived within minutes and took both to local Argerich hospital. The father was shot in the armpit and suffered a haemorrage after the bullet entered his chest. He died of his wounds shortly afterwards. His stepson was shot in the left leg, the bullet just missing his femoral artery. The perpetrators escaped after the attack and police were still searching for them on Sunday. Now, it is understood that the National Prefecture, in charge of the investigation, have requested the collaboration of the City Police and the Airport Security Police, in order to track in detail the journey made by the tourists and assailants, and test the hypothesis that the assailants chose the family at the international airport and followed the vehicle to surprise them as they entered their hotel.  The luxury Hotel Faena, where the shooting took place In Lowick, Northants, where the family live one neighbour, who didn’t wish to be named, said: "We knew Matthew quite well. We saw him every now and then in the pub. He was a great guy.  “He was always really nice. Every year, we have a Bonfire Night in the village and he would help fund it.  “He was always great. He travelled for work a lot and for pleasure but he was certainly well-liked. There has been a recent spate of attacks by ‘motochorros’ in the city recently. One Canadian man was apparently tracked from the same airport to the Intercontinental hotel were he was forced to hand over his belongings to motorcycle thugs. In December last year, Swedish tourist Christoffer Persson was shot during an attempted robbery, and his leg subsequently amputated due to his injuries. In the same month, a US tourist was hospitalised after a violent assault during which his camera was stolen. Puerto Madero, where the murder took place, is the redeveloped former city docks, hailed as one of the most successful urban regeneration projects in the world, attracting huge foreign investment, young professionals, and luxury tourism. A Foreign Officer spokesperson said:  “We are supporting the family of two British men following an incident in Buenos Aires, and are in contact with the local authorities there.”
